Spiritual Direction is a process whereby a spiritual director assists another in making sense of their experience with Jesus Christ. Using active listening, prayer, and application of Scripture, the director helps the directee/seeker become more attentive to the work of the Spirit of Christ in his/her personal life, relationships, work, and especially prayer life.
In your faith journey do you sometimes have a desire to talk with someone who is wise and who can help you discern and foster attentiveness to God’s presence in your life? In times of decision do you have a need for someone who has a deep prayer life to come alongside and to assist you in listening to God? Do you have a longing and interest to deepen in your relationship with God through prayer, but need some guidance along the way?
If you answer yes to any of these questions, then you might consider meeting with a Spiritual Director. What does a Spiritual Director do? One person is present to another and is attentive to the work of the Spirit of Christ in their personal life, relationships, work, and especially their prayer life. Essentially, Spiritual Direction is about assisting another to make sense of their experience of Jesus Christ. They will also assist the other to apply Scripture to their particular circumstances. God is present and active in our daily lives. The Spiritual Direction relationship is focused on making sense of how present and active God is and to spiritually discern what this means for our daily lives.
If you are considering Spiritual Direction, we recommend that you read the information we have provided about each of our Spiritual Directors (names and links below and in the sidebar). As you read, notice who you might feel drawn to and reach out to him or her by making a call or sending an email.
May the Spirit of Christ guide and inspire you as you explore the possibility of a Spiritual Direction relationship!
