Going Deeper with the Person
and Work of the Holy Spirit
Mike is a beloved son of the Father, a Presbyterian pastor, the director of www.church-withoutwalls.org, and author of two books: Hearing the Heartbeat of God and A Longing for More: Deeper, Wider, Further with the Holy Spirit. Mike hosts the podcast, “A Church Without Walls.” Mike and his wife, Susan, live in Bellingham, Washington, where he does spiritual direction, prayer ministry, leadership mentoring, and teaching.
Sessions for the day will include:
LONGING
LONGING for the Missing Someone: God the Holy Spirit – It seems that many in the Church would respond as the first disciples in Ephesus that, “We have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit” (Acts 19:2). For some, it has been a lack of teaching or a theology that denies the work of the Holy Spirit. For others, it has been painful experiences or exclusionary doctrines that have kept them from coming to the table to taste and see the goodness of God through the power of the Holy Spirit. What has been missing for you? What has kept you away? Do you have a longing for more?
LAYING
LAYING the Foundation for the Work of the Holy Spirit: Entering into an Experience of our Beloved Identity – In our heart of hearts, what do we think of ourselves, and what do we believe God thinks of us? We may say that God loves us, but do we believe it? Have we received it? As we begin to explore the Person and Work of the Holy Spirit, nothing is more important than the foundation we build on. That foundation is our identity as beloved daughters and sons of our Father.
EXPERIENCING
EXPERIENCING the Empowerment and Gifts of the Holy Spirit – Much of the Church seems to operate out of a powerless Christianity, as Paul addresses to Timothy, they have “the form of godliness but deny its power” (2 Tim. 3:5). In contrast, Jesus told his disciples to wait until they received the promise of the Father so the Spirit could empower them to do the same things Jesus did. Do you know that you need more in your life with Jesus? Would you benefit from an even greater manifestation of the Spirit’s presence and power in your life and ministry?
